Dell is one of the most established brands in the computer industry. If you do not have a specific taste in the brand and want to buy a computer, chances are you have been overwhelmed by the price of Dell products.
Some of my rich relatives paid extra bucks for Dell computers. Though a brand name comes with a price, their extra features and quality of products also add weight to them. I have used Dell Computers and, to be precise, owned three laptops at different prices for work purposes.
So let me explain the reason behind the extra price tag and give a non–biased view for you all to consider when buying a computer.
Why is Dell Computers Expensive than Other Computers?
Dell computers are more expensive than others because of their speedy, intelligent processors and tech support. They also provide Longer battery life, top–quality hardware, innovative structures, and durability of products.
Especially the high-end Dell models such as Alienware use some over-the-top quality processors like vPro processors, Intel Xeon Gold 2.1GHz 24 Core Processor, Intel Xeon Gold 2.5 GHz 10 Core Processor, Intel Xeon Platinum 2.7 GHz 26 Core Processor, etc.
Some of these processors even have built–in security features along with high-performance thunderbolt 3 and 4 technology.
Another reason is the tech support. They provide some of the best after–sales services in the industry. Not only do they sort out and solve your problems, but they also create various customer packages, including warranty and lifetime tech support. But they may vary depending on the product purchased.
Are Dell Computers Over-priced?
Yes, it is a bit over-priced. But this over-price comes with benefits. Though there are computers from all price ranges, the premium ones really do go overboard.
In my opinion, Dell computers are pretty hit-and-miss. Some of them worked so well that the brand got a name for itself pretty easily. Also, if you look for rock-bottom ranged Dell computers, you might find some, but they will not last long.
For those of the overpriced ones, which is their Alienware series, they perform and last pretty longer than average, considering their premium quality components. Not only the components but also their customer care service is top notch.
The Dell computer is priced higher than other brands considering the nearly same specs. But it is justified if one also considers product quality, longevity and customer satisfaction.
Features of an Overpriced(!) Dell Computer
Dell provides computers in various price ranges, but these are to expand the market. The bottom-tier products are a no-go. The top-tier products are beyond most of us. But the upper-mid tier computers are not only of high performance but also last long due to some top-notch features.
Here are some of the features of an over-priced Dell computer:
1. Latest Technology Processors
Dell introduced some of the most prominent processors there are recently. The vPro processors, Intel Xeon Gold 2.1GHz 24 Core Processor, Intel Xeon Gold 2.5 GHz 10 Core Processor, and Intel Xeon Platinum 2.7 GHz 26 Core Processor are some of them.
They are some of the most speedy and high–performance processors in the market. They reduce the processing time significantly and enable the user to add more powerful RAM and other components. So, CPU bottleneck is not an issue anymore.
Some powerful security features are integrated into these processors, making them an impregnable fortress for malware and viruses.
2. Good Battery backup
Battery backup is what users look for when buying a laptop. A good battery backup is always welcomed by consumers. While the backup time might differ according to the usage of the product itself, the average battery backup one gets from a laptop is around 4 to 5 hours for general operations.
Dell batteries can make a laptop run for about 6 to 7 hours straight. Even heavier processes do not affect that much, which is exceptional even in the industry. Though this backup time reduces over time, they are still better than any average laptop.
3. Commendable Tech Support
Dell provides one of the outstanding tech support services in the industry. When facing any problems, Dell first tries to resolve the problem by troubleshooting over the phone. You can find their technical support number here.
If over-the-phone troubleshooting does not work, they might even dispatch a team for your service.
Dell also provides some alluring customer packages like extended warranties and lifetime technical support.
4. Top Quality Hardware
If the processor is top quality, the other hardware also needs to be able to keep up with it. Dell uses the latest components available for its hardware.
The most basic components of a laptop include motherboards, RAM, Hard Disk drives or SSDs, power supply units, system fans, etc. Only the latest components are used for the most commendable performance.
Dell’s motherboards are a game changer in the computer world. Being compatible with a wide range of components makes the brand stand out more.
5. High-End Graphics
While the dedicated graphics cards have introduced graphics processing into a new era, Dell uses the latest ones for the best quality. Some of the latest GPU features are Ray Tracing and Tensor cores. Building lighting effects for realistic graphics is possible only by these.
Dell uses these latest GPUs so that consumers can enjoy the latest features without any drawbacks. They also have better heatsinks for overheating protections while using high load processes.
6. Durability of Product
Dell tries its best to maintain its brand name high among the other competitors. Especially, HP has a good reputation among consumers for good durability.
As Dell makes a wide range of computers, there are variations in durability. Though the rock-bottom laptops are not durable enough, the top-tier ones are made quite reliable and well–built.
So, Depending on the model and usage, Dell’s stylish notebooks should last at least two to three years without any issues. Some of them might even last 5 years or more.
Is Dell Computer Worth the Extra Expense?
Considering all the extra features and high–quality hardware, you might be willing to pay the extra few hundred dollars. You may find another computer of nearly the same specs and with a couple of hundred dollars less in price. But the performance drop might be about 5%. For most of the users, this 5% performance drop is no issue at all.
But if you are capable of paying the extra bucks, then why not enjoy the premium features Dell provides? I would say that the expense could be a bit lower, but Dell being expensive is justified due to the performance and durability features along with customer satisfaction they offer.
Are Dell Computers Overpriced? Verdict
I tried to give you an honest opinion regarding Dell’s overpriced computers. If you got some extra cash to spare, then my recommendation would be to go for Alienware.
Though you could get an HP or Lenovo at a lower price with more or less the same specs, you would not be able to enjoy the latest technology and premium services Dell provides. So, either sacrifice a few bucks or some features, your call.
